Acetaia Malagoli Daniele is one of those places.

Hidden in the countryside of Castelfranco Emilia, between Modena and Bologna, our family-run Acetaia welcomes travelers from all over the world searching for something increasingly rare:

authenticity.

Not a staged experience.

Not a tourist attraction.

But a real family story, deeply rooted in the culture of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP.

THE STORY OF A FAMILY AND OF A LOVE THAT BECAME TRADITION

Before becoming an Acetaia, this was simply a family home.

Sofia’s parents waited twelve years before finally being able to have children.

Twelve years of hope and waiting.

Twelve years suspended between dreams and uncertainty.

Then, when that possibility seemed almost out of reach, Sofia arrived.

Soon after, the family purchased what was then an old farmhouse nestled in the Modena countryside, surrounded by silence, fields and possibility.

It took six years of restoration before they could finally move in.

For Barbara and Daniele, it was never simply a house.

It was the tangible symbol of a joy they had waited far too long to experience.

The proof that, at last, they were no longer alone.

When Daniele, Sofia’s father, discovered that his long-awaited child would be a daughter, he began purchasing almost all of the barrels that still compose the Acetaia today.

Not to create a company.

Not to build a business.

But to honor a tradition deeply rooted in Modenese culture:

for generations, fathers have prepared a battery of barrels as a dowry for their daughters.

Daniele did the same.

And perhaps because that joy had been awaited for so long, he did it without measure.

Those barrels became his way of transforming love into something capable of lasting beyond a lifetime.

Some of the barrels inside the Acetaia are more than two hundred years old.

Others were personally chosen by Daniele for his daughters, creating twin barrel batteries so both girls would grow up united within the same family tradition.

Because, eighteen years after their marriage, a second daughter arrived.

And Daniele wanted everything to be equal:

the same care, the same love, the same heritage preserved through time.

THE ACETAIA THAT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BECOME A COMPANY

Sofia grew up inside the Acetaia, surrounded by those barrels, the scent of cooked grape must and the precious time spent beside her father.

Daniele worked as a civil engineer, yet he built much of the Acetaia with his own hands — assembling shelves, moving barrels and slowly transforming the attic into what it is today.

Often busy with work, he spent most of his free time here. And Sofia was almost always beside him.

It was in those quiet moments, among repeated gestures, silences and everyday conversations, that her deep connection with Traditional Balsamic Vinegar began.

Not as a product.

But as part of her family story.

Sofia studied civil engineering, as her father wished, and graduated. Yet while the world seemed to point her toward a different path, she kept returning here.

To the scent of cooked grape must.

To the silence of the barrels.

To the slow rhythm of time preserved inside the Acetaia.

In 2015, during Expo Milano, she opened a small temporary store in the center of Modena.

At the time, almost nothing existed beyond the barrels themselves and her determination to transform that tradition into something greater:

no structured brand, no sophisticated packaging, no carefully designed strategy.

There was only one strong conviction:

that this story deserved to be shared.

That small beginning slowly became what Acetaia Malagoli Daniele is today:

a family-run reality internationally recognized for authentic Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP experiences, Food Valley tours and experiential hospitality in the heart of Emilia-Romagna.

THE DOORS OF A FAMILY HOME, OPEN TO THE WORLD

Today we welcome guests from all over the world searching for authentic experiences in Italy’s Food Valley.

What they discover here is not simply a tasting.

It is shared time.

Every experience begins slowly.

We personally welcome each guest with coffee, a slice of homemade cake prepared by Barbara — Sofia’s mother — and a few quiet moments together before entering the Acetaia.

Because for us, hospitality is never just service.

It is relationship.

It is attention.

It is presence.

It is the choice to dedicate real time to another person.

Only afterwards do we climb into the attic of the Acetaia.

There, among ancient barrels, aged woods and the changing scent of the seasons, guests begin discovering the world of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena DOP.

In summer, the air becomes warmer and deeper.

The scent of cooked grape must grows richer and more intense.

People naturally lower their voices.

And slowly they realize they are not entering a business.

They are entering the most intimate and cherished part of a family’s life:

a countryside attic where time still matures slowly inside the barrels.

Long before Modena became an international culinary destination, we began guiding travelers through the most authentic side of Emilia-Romagna.

Many years ago, it was often the producers themselves asking for our help when international visitors arrived. Some did not speak English. Others simply could not stop their daily work to personally accompany guests through their world.

And so, spontaneous connections slowly began to grow between local families and travelers arriving from all over the world.

Over time, that network became one of the most meaningful parts of our work:

creating authentic Food Valley and Motor Valley experiences directly together with the people who live these traditions, protect them and genuinely love them.

For us, sustainability means, first of all, responsibility.

Responsibility toward the territory, local traditions, people and future generations.

We are a truly family-run reality, grown slowly through daily sacrifice, reinvestment into the local community and deep respect for artisanal craftsmanship.

We collaborate with local producers, artisans and nearby small businesses, creating meaningful opportunities for women and young people within our territory while preserving a human approach far removed from impersonal industrial models.

Even our packaging is handcrafted in Emilia by skilled artisans, so that every detail genuinely reflects the value of true Made in Italy craftsmanship.

From an energy perspective — Daniele and Sofia are, after all, both engineers, even if Sofia today only technically remains one on paper — we use solar panels, photovoltaic systems and wood boilers to reduce the environmental impact of the property as much as possible.

But the deepest form of sustainability, for us, remains cultural.

Because what people truly learn to love, they will also choose to protect.
